Leptospirosis |
A disease that is being recognized more frequently in the Schaumburg area. Harbored by dogs, deer, raccoons, skunks, opossums, rodents, and livestock, the disease may be transmitted dog to dog or through stagnant surface water, moist soil, and recreational sources such as ponds and lakes. About 200 cases of human Leptospirosis are identified each year in the U.S. At risk dogs should be vaccinated with one of the newer 4 serotype vaccines. |
