Lurking in shrubs, vegetation, and tall grass, many species are present in the Schaumburg area. Lyme disease ticks are present in Cook County forest preserves. Other species may transmit diseases such as Ehrlichiosis, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, Babesiosis, Cytauxzoonosis, and Tick Paralysis. Spray infested yards with permethrin. Use approved sprays or spot-on products for dogs. A vaccine for Lyme disease has been available for years. Do not use products approved only for dogs on cats; use products labeled for use in cats.
